[solved] I can't get my desktop environment back to english

I use Xfce and wanted to install SCIM so that I can type chinese in an english environment. However after following the directions in
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sma … d_platform , my desktop environment turned to chinese. I uninstalled scim-pinyin, commented zh_cn.utf-8 in /etc/locale.gen and deleted LC_CTYPE from /etc/profile, but my desktop is still in Chinese. How do I change my desktop back to english and install scim so that it won't change the desktop to chinese? Thanks

Would you please tell us how you did it? I had the same problem in the past but I just lived with it.

Re: [solved] I can't get my desktop environment back to english

Ok, so I followed the directions on the arch wiki which was why I ended up having a chinese desktop environment. Notice this part of the arch wiki

"If after you have install scim and the necessary input tables, and scim still doesn't work (click on the system tray, and nothing pops up), then you need to set the LC_CTYPE environmental variable in /etc/profile to the locale you plan to use. Simply create an entry for LC_CTYPE in /etc/profile, if there isn't one.

eg.   LC_CTYPE="zh_CN.utf8"              //if you want to type simplified chinese"

So you should do LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8" instead of LC_CTYPE="zh_CN.utf8".
