overwritten beginning of DM-Crypt -> recovery

Hiho,

my setup is the following:
3* 1TB HDD connected to a raid 5 on a areca controller
=> 2Tib usable space

on top of these 2Tib is a dm-crypt and inside that is an ext3 fs, over the full size of 2Tib.

Perfect setup so far :3

then did i want to rescue some other HDD in that system and accidently wrote on the first 250gb of the device i get from the controller.

My question is: is it possible to rescue the ext3 inside the dm-crypt (e.g. dd the /dev/mapper/crypt to another disk and try a simple fsck)? or did i delete some data at the beginning of the device that dm-crypt needed?
