possible install trouble
I have a new hp desktop (quad core) and I believe it has two hard drives. windows is on the one and the other is free. Could I back-up my data to the second free hard drive, install arch on the primary hard drive and then move the files back without losing my data? In other words, will an arch install even touch (format) the second drive?

No the installer wont format both drives, just choose the correct sdx drive at the start to auto partition or do it yourself using cfdisk
