"gpasswd -a myusername audio" won't work?

Sorry, this might have been asked before, though I couldn't find a post which applies to my problem.

The sound as root is working

I tried: "gpasswd -a myusername audio"
I get the confirmation that the user was added, however, the group doesn't appear when I type "groups" as user. Kdemod wouldn't let my user access the /dev/dsp, either.

What am I missing? Thank you!!!

You have to log out and log back in for the group addition to take effect on your user account.
