[Solved]reiserfs+grub(error 17 and 18) problems

I have a dual boot system running arch and xp. My system is updated except for the last 3 days. I am having grub related errors ie error 17 and 18. My arch partition(home and /) is reiserfs. This started happenig after a few shutdowns by the power switch when I was testing markrcs kde svn repo. Now grub hangs sometimes but otherwise the boot up is fine but long. The system also hangs with not even the Ctrl Alt Shift Pint Screen Rsq option working.
My own diagnosis is a either kernel upgrade, reiserfs problem or a hard disk problem.(how do i downgrade the kernel)
Can anyone suggest anything to help?

And I solved this problem by fsck.reiserfs --rebuild-tree option from live cd
