Hello!

I just completed my first SUCCESSFUL installation of Arch! I have been using linux for about a year now, and was admittedly getting bored with my Ubuntu box. When I first started using linux, I basically went through all the top distro's on distrowatch, exept Gentoo and Slack (I had read about the lack of a dependency checking manager, difficult install, etc.) About a month after using linux, I tried installing Arch (i believe it was 'Don't Panic') but things didn't turn out so well. I had lots of trouble manually editing config files, and I gave up about halfway through. But a couple days ago, I read a blog post about how awesome Arch is, and I felt that my linux knowledge had improved greatly, so I decided to try it out.

The install went flawlessly with no problems. I have to say that besides Gentoo, Arch Linux has some of the best documentation of any distro out there. Well thats enough of me rambling on, so I'll end this post. I'll be setting up my system now, and if I have any problems, I'll be sure to come back here and get some help wink

Re: Hello!

If there is any way you feel the documentation was lacking for new users that would have helped you with your install the first time around that you have knowledge of now feel free to contribute to the wiki.

Good luck with your Arch setup and welcome to the dark side, sadly we don't have free cookies.

I haven't lost my mind; I have a tape back-up somewhere.

Re: Hello!

i was a long time gentoo user, just installed arch i686 on my laptop a few days ago. i have to say its nice having the speed of a binary package manager... gentoo's portage was an awesome utility, but it had it's flaws, and compilation times are legendary
