Professional searching available

I wanted to let everybody know that I am offering a professional Arch Linux search service for those people who would rather ask a question than search. It works like this:

1. You send me the search fee via paypal
2. You send me an e-mail stating your problem or question
3. I find the information you need and send it to you via e-mail.  The information will come as a collection of formatted links (for an extra fee, you can have the information summarized in the form of a mini howto)

Fees are as follows (Canadian dollars):
google search: $100
forum search: $125
dmoz search: $75
summarizing fee: $75
**GST added for Canadian residents, PST for Saskatchewan residents.  No shipping or handling fee.
____________

I am a promoter of open source software and information, so this is the algorithm I will use for each of the searches. Feel free to adapt it for your own professional searching service:

Google:
I visit www.google.com, enter suitable search terms, and return (or summarize) the first 10 results.

Forum:
I click the search button on the Arch Linux Forum, enter search terms, select "include all terms in search", and return (or summarize) the 10 most likely results.

dmoz:
I visit www.dmoz.org, enter suitable search terms and return (or summarize) the first 10 results.

Feel free to send me your fee via paypal and I'll perform the search as advertised within two business days.

Dusty

I knew it was a joke once you said that. C'mon, Canadian dollars aren't REAL currency. Might as well do it in monopoly money...

Re: Professional searching available

Very nice Dusty!

Actually I've been searching for happiness. Unfortunately your individual search prices seem a bit much for something as trivial as happiness.  I think (and most great marketroids would agree) you might need to sweeten the deal by packaging all your search features into say... a search suite... I'm sorry , these days its called a bundle. Either way I think you are defintely sitting on a gold mine.

Thanks,
Jason

Re: Professional searching available

I intend to expand into enterprise search services after I've made a little to get me started. I think I'll eventually sell out to Microsoft. They will probably increase the prices and provide a somewhat reduced service though, so it would be wise to get your searches in while you can. wink

Re: Professional searching available

according to google page:

We have a variety of holiday and fan-created logos for your viewing pleasure. Please don't use them elsewhere as each has a special history at Google and we'd like them to enjoy their well-deserved retirement.

I don't know if that means you can use tux. No time for an imagemanipulation here anyway...

Re: Professional searching available

This search business sounds good smile.  I am considering adding a lock in hwd blocking the howto information (how to configure detected hardwares). To unlock there is a fee of Fin$ 50.00 (Finnish dollar).
http://amlug.net/new-projects/hwd/hwd.html

What about asking for a fee using Arch Wiki..... in what currency?
http://wiki.archlinux.org/

Arch Linux WHERETO.... this page will generate a good income.

Huh! It was we, the nordic guys, that "invented america" , you don't believe that fairytale about columbus was first, do you? heck, we even called it "new sweden" , by the delaware river, then the dutch came along and the party was over, sadly

Re: Professional searching available

ok, let's play open market:

i'm offering:

search for information on the internet (no matter if gg:, odp: or any forum): 40CHF

make you a very nice presentation about a subject you want me to search for on the internet in pps, openoffice, mgp, kpresenter or even LaTeX (Prosper): 300CHF (260CHF + 40CHF for search)

explain you how to use the modules in linux and the output of hwd: 20CHF --- or if you are a bad student: 9400.95CHF (9000 for the hours of repeated explaining, 400 for the mental lost on my side and 0.95 for the electricity to run my computer in this time)

compile you a module (and offer it as arch pkg) that is available as external source but not as binary: 100CHF (assuming you are using the newest stock-kernel and know how to edit pacman.conf and '-S' it)

(1USD=1.2CHF)

Looks like I'm out of business... between dp's massive personal collection of links and his uncanny search ability... I can't make QoS guarantees to match that!

Hey, don't just quit, that's not the way monoplies act! First think you should do is file a lawsuit cuz he stole your idea! Some judge might give you a restraining order to shut o'le dp down, at least for a while. Then lower your prices a little to sweeten the deal while dp's out of business! Just sue him, it's the "American way"! If that dosn't work just declare war, you don't even need any evidence to do that! You can even make up a bunch of stuff, just ask your Vice President to handle it!

he he :-)

i have an idea for you Dusty:

let's do teamwork (and increase the fees) --- that's how the non-american way works: instead of war, you sit down for lunch and make the details out for teamwork and coexistence :-)
