Very lagging

Okay  switched over form ubuntu and wha ti have noticed that gnome is very laggy way laggyer than ubuntu and is there a way to fix that. Also gnome likes to hang on loading some programs. It uses less memory but seems to be more laggy. The scrolling in minefeild and firefox is also slow too. Please help me fix this
