I'm new to Arch, so this may well be something I set up wrong or something, but a search of the web and the forums didn't turn up anything useful.
I can't get many packages to install. For example, I run pacman -S openoffice-base, and it can't install openoffice. It won't download the openoffice-base package file. pacman will download openoffice-spell-en (or whatever the dictionary file was called)
The common thread in all of the cases seems to be that if the file ends in .tar.gz it won't download, but otherwise it will. At first, I was doing this on a hotel network, and thought that it was filtering them as a potential virus threat or something, but now I'm home and it's still not working, so I've decided it's something with the computer.
I have no idea what the relevant config files or outputs are, so if you find yourself wanting anything, let me know.

Weird. Run
pacman -Syy pkgnameThis will force pacman to update its local database. Also make sure that you have more than one mirror open for download, just in case the first is having problems.

Ah, that seems to have done the trick. Thanks.
