I'm using networkmanager... I tried wicd once or twice, but never managed to make it work the way it should... Therefore, I keep on using networkmanager which works almost perfectly for me smile

Re: What are you guys all using as a wifi manager?

Been messing around with wifi-radar, but it is a pain in the *ss with wpa, so I switched to networkmanager and gnome-network-manager. An improvement when it comes to configuring, but still some problems when it comes to changed settings on a network and, mainly, the keyring issue. I think I'll give netcfg a spin.

netcfg2 for both LAN and wifi on-demand. Three cheers for Iphitus!

Re: What are you guys all using as a wifi manager?

netcfg2 rocks.
i had always problems connecting to encrypted networks with wpa_supplicant, but with netcfg2 it's just a piece of cake

i like wicd for my laptop, i think it's the best gui for updating the network list while your moving around.

you can unlock the keyring at the start of the desktop session by putting this in the pam config of your login manager (it probably works in slim compoiled with pam support)

    auth optional pam_gnome_keyring.so
    session optional pam_gnome_keyring.so auto_start

once you do it, the keyring password prompt will have a 'remember password' checkbox and you'll never see it again.
I'm using network manager btw... haven't tried netcfg though... I think I'll give it a try.

I tried that but it didn't work for me. Messing around with netcfg2 now. I like the manual configuration, but I can't get my wireless to associate with my wpa secured AP.

Re: What are you guys all using as a wifi manager?

I've been using netcfg2 for a long time, but I have not switched to Networkmanager just to see how it is like.

Re: What are you guys all using as a wifi manager?

I just have in rc.local:

wpa_supplicant -ieth1 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf &

And in rc.conf:

eth1=dhcp

When changing network:

iwlist eth1 scanning
iwconfig eth1 essid XXX
dhcpcd eth1

Re: What are you guys all using as a wifi manager?

As a kde3-laptop-user (in desktop I use xfce) I used to use networkmanager, but as someone said, i always had problems connecting to certain encrypted devices. Now because of kde4 I was forced to try something new, and must say that netcfg + archassistant simply rock. I guess I´ll stay with them forever, everything seems so simple, fast and stable now!! Thanks to the developers for the good work.
