Getting the Clutch WEB UI working with Transmission-daemon

Hey guys. I've got transmissiond starting up on boot and doing wonderful things for my torrents. However I'm getting tired of sorting through them using transmission-remote. So, I've tried to install Clutch, the web-based GUI that interfaces with the daemon. It isn't working though.

I've installed Apache and PHP as per the Arch wiki. I've enable the appropriate modules for Apache as per this Clutch how-to:
http://recurser.com/trac/transmission/w … ingStarted
(I followed directions under the "Linux" section halfway down the page).

Despite all sorts of troubleshooting and configuring, I have always gotten this error when navigating to the Clutch web page.

Daemon Error: The Transmission daemon does not appear to be running.

I can access the daemon using transmission-remote no problem.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

OK, so I figured out it's a permissions problem. I suppose the web server can't access the socket file even though I have chmodded everything to 777. When I change apache to run as my local user and not http everything works.

Why can't http access the chmod 777 socket file owned by root but my local user can?
