totem avi thumbnails stopped working

It used to be that totem-xine could make avi thumbnailers.  Now it is not the case.  I have also tried totem-gstreamer and i too do no get any thumbnails. 

I found this command but i do not know what it does

/usr/lib/xfce4/thunar-vfs-update-thumbnailers-cache-1

PS: i am using xfce4
