The beginners guide is supposed to be included on the new Arch Linux CD. But where is it? I've been searching around but I still have no idea..

From memory it is in the /arch folder. But I could be very wrong...

is it still available somewhere after the installation finishes and reboots? it's a great help during the initial installation, but when i got my prompt and wanted to install X etc. i couldn't locate it anywhere (and i only have one computer here so couldn't get the online version). it would be nice to have it copied to /usr/local/beginnersguide.txt (or something) by the installer with a small notice on screen.

You can always mount the cd and access it from there. :-)

it's not that easy since the cd is in squashfs. ![]()
if you put it in /addons as a plain text file, then sure.

Good point, and maybe this is something we want to add to the installer. An option to install the beginner's guide. Sounds totally feasible to me. An "Install documentation from CD" is probably very easy. Please file a feature request in the bug tracker (http://bugs.archlinux.org), and, as always, feel free to patch the installer for faster inclusion http://projects.archlinux.org/?p=instal … ;a=summary

it would be a nice idea to have a copy of the guide inside the cd root and not just inside an .img file.
I'm sayind that because I want to read it from the cd and I can't.

Yeah, I as well had problems when /arch/beginnersguide.txt vanished along with the setup script. Luckily I had our family computer to fall back to, but if I'd just had my laptop I would've been in trouble, because I was unable to access the Internet at first.

I had the same thought while I was installing, and just before rebooting at the last step of the install I manually copied the text setup files to the root user folder, just in case they weren't included anywhere post install. I can't remember exactly what the path was, but it was something like: cp /arch/*.txt /mnt/root/
I'm glad I did this step myself, as I had no Arch experience and no hard copy of the guides, and didn't see any mention of post install documentation being available. I think something like this would be a very useful addition, and I don't think it needs to be anymore complex than having the /arch/*.txt files in the root user folder.
