flushing DNS

i am having trouble with flushing my DNS. i have edited nscd.conf so it says persistent hosts no. but i cant figure out how to start and stop the daemon

To shut it down, use this command:

# nscd -K

To start it back up, use this:

# nscd

It can take a while for the DNS change to "propagate." Other DNS servers will first have to update their records. It can take hours or days, but there's not much more you can do about it.
