GIMP Help not available

I installed gimp and gimp-help-2, but when I click on Help in GIMP I get: "Could not find GIMP help browser.  The GIMP help browser plug-in appears to be missing from your installation."

Is there an extra step to associate GIMP with its Help plug-in?  Or should it be working?

Re: GIMP Help not available

Thanks!  I'll probably use the web browser help for now, but if I want to follow up on azleifel's suggestion should I: (a) remove gimp, (b) install libgtkhtml, and then (c) make GIMP from source using ABS?

First just try to install libgtkhtml and possibly gtkhtml. I'm not running Gimp 2.4 so I can't test it.

By the way, I don't think I said hi yet. Welcome to the forums.

Re: GIMP Help not available

Hi, and thanks for the welcome!  I'm certainly finding this a helpful and friendly forum.

I've tried it with libgtkhtml, to no avail.  I'll try gtkhtml as well...

If you really want the help browser then I don't think that there's any way to get it without building from source with libgtkhtml installed but there's no need to uninstall gimp first, just do a pacman -U with the new package.

Hmmm? Why would the help package be in the repos if it doesn't work with GIMP in the repos?

Re: GIMP Help not available

The help package is usable without GIMP's own help browser, it just needs the Help System -> Help Browser preference set to "Web browser".  Why it's been set up this way I do not know.  EDIT: Is this worth a bug report?

Thanks, I didn't know that. I do know that the version that's shipping with GIMP 2.6 is going to use Webkit and not gtkhtml. It's strange watching the GIMP core slowly become detached from GTK.
