KMenu weirdness in 4.1, changes not taking

I'm having some strangeness with the KMenu and System Settings in KDE 4.1.

First, the menu issues --

After editing the menu, the changes do not show until I log out and then back in.

Also, I cannot get the shortcut keys to work for launching applications (meta-T for terminal, etc.), though they do seem to work for other functions.

Finally, sometimes the menu items won't launch anything when clicked.

System settings also appear to NOT be taking --

I turned off the sound notifications for logging in and out in the System Settings, but I keep getting music when I log in or out of KDE regardless.

Also, I've set the Login Manager to use a themed login -- but it still gives me a generic KDM login.

I'm probably missing something obvious, but it's strange to me that nearly every attempt to customize things results in no change at all, even though KDE is acknowledging my new settings.

Thanks,

Chris

Are the KMenu issues with the legacy or new (Kickoff) one? I had problems with applications not starting with the old one...

Re: KMenu weirdness in 4.1, changes not taking

It's with the old-style menu, not the Kickoff one.

I'll try using Kickoff and see if the problems continue with that.

Also, found out that notifications settings weren't taking because I was using System Settings as root.  Apparently it was setting login and logout notifications for the root user, and not me.  Duh.
