Re: kde not loading??

This might be a little obvious, but did you install the xorg packages and configure X?

They're not technically a dependency of the gui but you're not going to have KDE or any other desktop without having X. If you've already configured X you might try seeing what it says in /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Re: kde not loading??

i did run xorg configure last night thinking that might be the issue.

i'll try the other method, or using the nvidia config tool. but i think i had issues using the nvidia one last time i set it up, thats why i didn't go near it

Re: kde not loading??

You're not getting a terminal?   I just ran an update, and now that's all I get.   KDE doesn't start at all, and on shutdown I get an error about fam not being found in /etc/rc.d, or something.   Probably not related at all, though.

And dude, you're from Kemptville?   I live near there.

Re: kde not loading??

lol, well i don't know what that issue ended up being. but i ended up just doing a clean install, then i had issues with keyboard and mouse not working at the login screen, i was missing some input packages so that got fixed. its running sweet now anyway

how close to kemptville are you anyway?

Re: kde not loading??

Geh, lucky, no way I'm doing a clean install, I've been using this install for too long for that to be preferrable.

And I live about 10 minutes' driving time from there, I think.

Re: kde not loading??

Nope, I don't go to school there, but I doubt I'd miss those, they sound like they'd stand out around here. tongue

Anyway, we shouldn't turn this into a conversation thread, going off-topic and all.
