KDE4.1 - No 3 star passwords on kdm anymore?

After the switch to KDE4 I can't seem to activate the three star'd passwords in kdm anymore. The option is simply not available in the login manager in system settings. I can however select it for the user in the personal information tab.

I tried editing kdmrc by hand. The old KDE3 kdmrc provided the option EchoMode=ThreeStars in the [X-*-Greeter] section. There was no such option in the new KDE4 config. So I tried copying to old option over, to no avail. I found the information on a fedora site that EchoMode was replaced by the option EchoPasswd. Only reference I found to it though. That new option seems to be simple boolean. Setting EchoPasswd=ThreeStars at last didn't work.

Anyone got a clue here? Or does anyone know for certain this option has been taken out of kdm? Would be weird as it is still available as a user-specific option. Thanks in advance.
