:? I stuck on step 4 in the alsa set up guide.
I type in: aplay mywav.wav and get:
" mywav.wav no such file or directory"
What next?
Thanks -- Larry

well likely "mywav.wav" is just an example of a sound file. if you have any sound files at all on your computer just point aplay there:
aplay /path/to/your/sound/files/filename.extension
AKA uknowme

i think if you use alsaconf to setup your card
it plays a sound at the end to test your card
correct me if i'm wrong
on the other hand you can use also any mp3 ogg ... whatever you want to test your card
try xmms to play a file or any other music app(amarok etc.) you like

:? I finished the alsa setup, I have sound, but I also have two problems.
#1-- The volume is at top volume, way to loud. I use alsamixer to lower it;
use alsactl store to save it, -- but it's not being saved!
At reboot it's at top volume again.
#2-- I keep getting this error message at boot-up and shutdown:
/etc/rc.d/alsamixer: Line 13(at boot- up) [: -qt : ] Binary Operator Expected
/etc/rc.d/alsamixer: Line 23(at shutdown) [: -qt : ] Binary Operator Expected
This should be the last problem, fix this and I can start to enjoy a problem free system!!
Thanks in advance -- Larry

I have
alsactl restore
in /etc/rc.clocal so settings once saved
alsactl store
will be there when you reboot....

Thanks lanrat

Mr.Green I reset amixer -- Master & PCM --to 74 unmute.
I did the same in alsamixer. Did alsactl store, that worked.
Thanks Mr Green
