Hi, I am having a problem with fonts which just doesn't want to go away. On a few sites (like Google, this forum, and Ubuntu's forums), it seems to want to use this funky font I installed for design purposes instead of the precious default Bitstream Vera. I tried creating local.conf and that didin't work, neither did editing about:config. I am also posting a screenshot so you can see what is wrong. Left is Firefox, right is Epiphany. Can someone help me get the normal fonts back, this makes it so I can't really even read much on the web.

Dunno if you already checked this but take a look in the firefox preferences.
Edit >> Preferences >> Content >> Fonts and Colors >> Advanced
If the settings are correct then maybe you overwrote/renamed a font by accident.

I can't oipen that, Firefox freezes when I try it.

1. clear cache, reload ffox and see if the problem resolves
2. close ff, mv ~/.mozilla/firefox/<xyz123.default> directory, restart ff

You can also check if ff allows pages to use they're own fonts.
If the settings menu doesn't work for you look for "browser.display.use_document_fonts" in the about:config.

If FF is freezing, then there's probably something seriously wrong with either with your configuration files (as others have said) or one of your extensions is broken. An easy way to test is to back up your /home/.mozilla directory and launch FF again. If it works properly, set up FF the way you like it then import your bookmarks from the backup directory.

neither of those worked. It still uses the same font, even after backing up the .mozilla directory. I think it is something wrong witht he system font.

what desktop or window manager are you using? you could try changing that and see if the fonts are okay in the new one. or else make a new test user with a fresh home directory and see if the problem shows up there. at least then you'd know it was something corrupted in your home directory and not your system.

I fixed it by renaming my .fonts directory to .fonts-bkup. I guess I will have to rename it when I want to do design. :-\
