For some reason, after I installed pythophotopod from the .tar.gz file from the pythophotopod website (not the AUR) and rebooted, my laptop is unable to start the bash shell, saying that it doesn't have the permission to do so. I tried using the fallback kernel, and this didn't help one bit. After I get a bunch of these repeating permission denied messages, I get a message saying that there are no more processes left in the runlevel. Something must have gone terribly wrong here...reinstalling Arch clean will be my last resort. Thanks

I don't have a ton of experience with this, but I'll try to get the ball rolling in the right direction.
Could you possibly boot off of the archlive (latest installer) cd, mount your main drive, and then delete the files that were installed?
Did the installation process change the permissions of any directories? If so, maybe you could boot the live cd and change them back?
Sorry, not "instant-fix" advice, but maybe on the right track?
good luck!

Yeah, I could definitely try that later on today in my free time. I was at a Radiohead concert yesterday evening so I didn't have time to fix the problem (yeah, a GREAT excuse...)

OK, I solved my problem. It was an issue with /etc/fstab (I was trying to optimize JFS performance). When I had my root partition's line like this:
UUID=77dd4d8b-8441-45ab-b32d-3914f33e1d5c / jfs rw,user,auto,noatime 0 1
I got the "permission denied" errors at startup. So I just changed it back to defaults:
UUID=77dd4d8b-8441-45ab-b32d-3914f33e1d5c / jfs defaults,noatime 0 1
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Whoever first said that is a true genius

good to hear it!
also, radiohead is a good enough reason to not sit at a computer any day.
