Re: wireless with kde4?

isnt wicd the one thats in faunos? im not a huge fan of it, but looking at some of the details, i guess with a few less daemons in startup, my laptop might boot up quicker, which would be handy.

i suppose i could get used to it if since i know it`ll do what i need

Re: wireless with kde4?

well, i installed wicd...... changed my daemon settings, rebooted, and it worked.........

but then i added the autostart, did another reboot, now wicd doesn't work anymore. if i try to open it, it flashes for a second, and goes away

Re: wireless with kde4?

Arch Assistant is written in Qt4 (which is what kde4 uses), so it may look better on your system. I use it and like it. It even comes with an instant connection wizard.

ArchAssistant downloads are available on the ArchWiki as binary, AUR, and source.

Re: wireless with kde4?

When I was using KDEmod 4, I found that I had to type the complete path in to get knetworkmanager to start. I believe it was in like /usr/bin/kde or something.

Once I ran it once, it started on it own every time I logged in. I believe the version in our repos is still using the kde 3 libraries, but it worked for me.

Re: wireless with kde4?

maybe ill try that with knetworkmanager. it worked fine on my desktop without doing that. but my desktop is running 64bit, ill try it on my 32bit install on my laptop. if that fails, maybe ill give arch assistent a try since wicd is giving me grief.

i dont miss windows since i switched, but a new linux install takes so much more fine tuning

Re: wireless with kde4?

Heh, I just used /etc/rc.d/network and iwconfig via the terminal.  I'll try ArchAssistant to simplify things...
