Shutdown takes a long time - Kernel 2.6.25-ARCH

I use the defualt arch kernel : 2.6.25-ARCH it works fine, but when i shutdown i see the green power off text but the pc powers off 4 minutes later. I have had this problem with ubuntu but  the kernel crew didnt see it as a problem and didnt fix it. Here is my bugreport : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/219967

I dont have this problem with windows XP or a live cd or that its a problem with my motherboard support or linux kernel

If you don't have the issue on a livecd I would compare /proc/config.gz from both live and installed systems and see if/how the kernel configuration is different.

first off, there is NO comparison between xp and arch linux.

Secondly, try what daenyth said, check the kernel configs.

thirdly, what does the end of your sentence state? 'I don't have this problem... or that its a problem with my motherboard support or linux kernel'???

*.gz

its a gzipped file, I use lesspipe.

pacman -Sy lesspipe

then use less to view the file

less /proc/config.gz

or, One could use tar I suppose and then extract it somewhere.

Wich specific part should i compare with the live cd?

that's for you to figure out. These configs are what the kernel is compiled against, so if you compare both configs using diff it will return the differences of the two files. Then you will know what specific parts to look at. Then post back your results and someone may be able to help you further.

Re: Shutdown takes a long time - Kernel 2.6.25-ARCH

I have booted up an ubuntu live cd but /proc/config.gz doesn' t exist on it, i will try a arch cd later.

I think what you are gonna need is to use a liveCD(boot the CD's kernel) then chroot into your HD and then get the output of /proc/config.gz

As far as I know liveCD does not create /proc /sys and few other directories.

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_Panics <-- use this method to chroot, but DO NOT and I repeat, DO NOT re-install a kernel, just CHROOT in and then find that finally which will under /mnt/proc

If this doesn't work, then I am unsure as I never tried to do this before.

edit: you could just check out the git repository and look up the config file there for the arch liveCD.
