kde4 faster than kde3?

Can somebody express his opinion on kde performance, i'm still using kde3.x and i'm curious to know if kde4 is slower or faster than kde3.x?

In general it is slower -- apps take a bit longer to open and plasma tends to eat more resources.

I heard, that loading apps takes a bit longer, but as soon as they are up, they are running faster than on KDE3. Cannot verify it on my machine, but I tell you, Openbox is even faster

For some reason KDE4 likes to eat 600+ MB of RAM on my box, while KDE3 eats 200-300 MB with the same set of apps. Plasma panel constantly eats 1-6% CPU time and Xorg eats more as well. Can't really say whether apps start faster or not. Once they're started, the only difference may be in the drawing speed. As Kwin4 optionally uses OpenGL/Xrender, it could make some difference.

I've tried 4.1 4 times and that resource hungriness is the main thing that puts me off. Maybe it's somehow related to nVidia drivers, as I see people saying that KDE4 is less resource hungry.

Athlon XP 1600+, GF 6600 GT, 1,5 GB RAM: KDE 4.1 is much slower than 3.5.9 (both KDEmod branch). KMail works as it needs looong holidays. 1MB mail is being opened about 10-20 seconds. All mails larger than 2-3 kB are being opened noticeably longer. Akregator also has got problems with its performance.
Other apps also got problems. I'm wandering about migration back to KDEmod 3.5.9.

i find kde4 seems a little sluggish on my 64bit desktop. when i got it running on my laptop though, it seems a bit quicker. hard to say. overall i like it. but i think its still in need of a lot of fine tuning. and theres alot of things i can't customize like i could in kde3. but i guess it may still be early in development.

i have some wierd issues withit on my desktop, last night my backround went all scrambled, had to reboot. other times depending on what im doing, i get these wierd lines on my screen, they look like they're supposed to be window frames from another apps behind what im using. i've had my backround get flipped upside down for a second before i switch windows. just wierd stuff like that. there's updates available, so when i can get my desktop to a friends again who has highspeed, not dialup, ill install them
