openbox background colour with xcompmgr

OK so I'm missing something.

I run "xsetroot -solid black" before "xcompmgr -r0" in xinitrc before "exec openbox-session".

The background is grey - it seems to me that it is being made translucent by xcompmgr; when I kill xcompmgr the desktop background goes back to black.

Is this to be expected? is there any way to set the background to black whilst using xcompmgr or can I tell xcompmgr to leave the desktop alone?

On my work desktop Ubuntu box, running compiz-fusion still allows a black background, is this not possible with xcompmgr or am I on the wrong lines?

All hints gratefully accepted...

Re: openbox background colour with xcompmgr

SOLVED

A bit late now, but if anyone turns this up searching, I have now used hsetroot in my autostart.sh to set the background colour to black:

hsetroot

(Hmmm, complex eh?)

and my desktop is black. Just like I always wanted.
