Hi,
I have read threads on forum about firefox3 missing bookmarks and I am having the same problem
Tried to import but with no luck
Is it Arch related or just Firefox3 out of date?

Did you try one of the bookmark backup files in ~/.mozilla/firefox/<ugly_folder_name>/bookmarkbackups? If your stuff is still there, you may have to create a new profile and then import.

My bookmarks are fine currently, but I'm a bit worried and wonder what you tried that failed. What file did you import and what is missing? Is bookmarks.html or places.sqlite gone?

there are json files in bookmark backups folder importing bookmarks.html did nothing....
always backup /home once a month so most of my bookmarks are safe
thing is the forward and back buttons in firefox show nothing now... bookmark toolbar is empty
all very strange
only started over last couple of days, an update maybe?

By the sounds of it, there is something wrong with sqlite. I think it relates to the back and forward buttons and the bookmarks.
I will suggest; although, ypu have probably already dones this, completely remove firefox and all deps, just to be sure, then re-install.
Do not put back your bookmarks, but play around with firefox and see what it does.
If it works as normal, then add your old < horribile name >.default back into ~/.mozilla/firefox and change the Path in profile.ini.
We should all be on firefox 3.0.1 now.
32-bit Gentoo -to- Arch64
If you could be so kind, but when you found the solution,
edit your first post and add to the title '[SOLVED]'.

What about backing up your ~/.mozilla directory and try fresh to see if the problem persists? That will hopefully tell you if it's in the software or if it's in the configuration.

I suspect that one of your ad-ons did this and it nothing directly to do with FF. I'd return your setup the way that it was one piece at a time to be sure.

Couldn't you just install foxmarks, to automatically sync your bookmarks?
