playstation 2 controller

not sure if this is the right place to post this but i cant figure out anywhere else it would fit in.
I have a playstation2 controller with a converter so i can use it in linux but i would like to customize it's buttons for other use namely with kaffeine.
i tried btnx but it wont pick it up neither does xev not even sure if they can but zsnes does pick it up so does anywone else know a way to map the buttons of a controller to a keyboard

I am mostly sure xorg supports using a joystick device as input, it would just be a matter of assigning keysyms. Try asking on the xorg forums or IRC
