This widget works well with standard USB memory sticks. It also recognises CD-ROM and external hard disks - but here the option "open device in Dolphin" opens Dolphin in my document directory with no sign of the device. I look in /media, where USB sticks are shown: nothing. However, I can eject the CD-ROM correctly.
This is the most serious problem I have with KDE4. Very frequent crashes of Konqueror are easily avoided by using FIrefox. Loss of structure when exporting Konqueror bookmarks as HTML is a once-only problem. KMail losing emails, and re-instating deleted emails when converting from KDE3, just proved the value of back-ups. But not being able to read CD-ROMs and external hard disks IS a showstopper.
Of course, I can always put the CDROM in fstab, but the external (USB-connected) hard disks would still be a problem.
