readline support in ngspice package?

This morning I installed the ngspice circuit simulator package from community and was suprised to note that it was compiled
without readline support.
It was fairly trivial to add it to the './configure' line in the pkgbuild and compile it by hand, but is there a reason it wouldn't be enabled by default? Command-line editing is a pretty basic/fundamental feature (for me at least).
