Framebuffer

I have compiled a kernel (not sure if I did it right) for my embedded x86 system. I want to use framebuffer so I can get a good resolution on the console. What do I need to do to make this work?

When I pass the vga=795 option to the device, it doesn't work.

Re: Framebuffer

Didi you compile in at least a framebuffer driver supporting your video chipset? Vesafb, uvesafb or the hardware specific one? Please note that vga=795 is valid almost only for vesafb, the majority of other drivers require an option such as video=intelfb:1024x768-16@60 (if you use intelfb). Moreover, if you are using vesafb, are you sure that your chipset supports the resolution corresponding to vga=795?

Anyway, the kernel documentation in <thepathwhereyouuntarredthekernelsource/Documentation/fb provides a complete description of all the options for the various fb drivers.

Re: Framebuffer

Just noticed that the video chip on my embedded board is only VESA 1.2 compatible. What's the best way to get a higher resolution console on a VESA 1.2 card? Framebuffer requires at least vesa 2.0. All I want is a higher resolution console to work with.
