Hello,
I have got this working before however forget how.
I need to get internet working via a direct ethernet connection from a router.
/etc/rc.conf:
eth0="dhcp"
INTEFACES=(eth0)
/etc/rc.d/network restart
Hangs on busy then gives this error:
err, eth0: timed out
warn, eth0: using IPV4LL address 169.254.200.182
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Is everything plugged in? I know it's a silly question, but that's exactly what happened to me just a few weeks ago setting up a router.
Alternatively, are you sure that the router has DHCP turned on?
Last, you might want to make sure the gateway isn't set and restart your computer and try again.

Everything is connected and works fine in Vista. DHCP is definitely enabled.
gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
ROUTES=(!gateway)
Is that right?

ifconfig output?

OK, just copied this down from the other PC screen so hope it's accurate enough.

Ah - this particular PC has LAN ports which I previously identified as being broken and installed an "DM9601 USB to Fast Ethernet Adapter" which basically provides LAN through a USB port. Now to get this working with Arch Linux...

Under ifconfig usb0 is showing up, however ifconfig usb0 up seems to have no effect.
Any ideas how to get this USB internet connection working? Perhaps it would be easier using wireless?
I'm going to edit the thread title to clarify this issue.

Got it solved - swapped eth0 for usb0 for two occurances in /etc/rc.conf - lucky, this could have been a lot more complicated.
