Knetworkmanager not showing up as an app in KDEmod4

Hello!

Just recently got my Arch build up and running.  I'm using a cable at the moment, internet works fine- I just can't find the knetworkmanager in any of the menus or the taskbar.

It is installed on my computer and rc.conf set up as per the wiki (particularly the Daemons section).

Is there a widget to add, a command to run to make it visible and accessible?  My wifi light is on, wlan0 shows up with an ifconfig, just no Knetworkmanager widget!

Thanks!

EDIT:  I have also added my user account to network.

Re: Knetworkmanager not showing up as an app in KDEmod4

Here is the output from my /etc/ec.conf

# Use 'ifconfig -a' or 'ls /sys/class/net/' to see all available interfaces.
#
# Interfaces to start at boot-up (in this order)
# Declare each interface then list in INTERFACES
#   - prefix an entry in INTERFACES with a ! to disable it
#   - no hyphens in your interface names - Bash doesn't like it
#
# DHCP:     Set your interface to "dhcp" (eth0="dhcp")
# Wireless: See network profiles below
#
eth0="dhcp"
wlan0="dhcp"
INTERFACES=(!eth0)

# Routes to start at boot-up (in this order)
# Declare each route then list in ROUTES
#   - prefix an entry in ROUTES with a ! to disable it
#
gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
ROUTES=(!gateway)

and the daemons:

DAEMONS=(syslog-ng !network alsa !netfs hal dhcdbd networkmanager dbus fam crond kdm)

I'm just not sure why there isn't an applet for knetwork manager anywhere in the bar or menus, nor can I selsct to add it from the widgets menu.

'Alt-F2 --> "knetworkmanager"'

Arch - It's something refreshing

Re: Knetworkmanager not showing up as an app in KDEmod4

If you just installed things it's possible knetworkmanager isn't in your path yet, since it's uses kde3 it's in /opt/kde/bin. It will probably show up on it's own the next time you log in. I think typing "source /etc/profile" into a terminal would get it added to, but not totally certain about that.

If you haven't rebooted or started the networkmanager daemon manually you'll need to do that before you can use knetworkmanager as well.

Re: Knetworkmanager not showing up as an app in KDEmod4

alright, so here's what I get:

AltF2 --> knetworkmanager brings up nothing.  If I do Alt-F2 -->/opt/kde/bin/knetworkmanager it says "not found", even tho it shows the file.

output of starting networkmanager manually:

/opt/kde/bin/knetworkmanager start
/opt/kde/bin/knetworkmanager: error while loading shared libraries: libkutils.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

now I'll try a reboot

EDIT:  reboot did nothing.  I think I'm ready to go with netcfg2.

Re: Knetworkmanager not showing up as an app in KDEmod4

While you can switch to using netcfg, it looks like you found a bug in the packaging. I have libkutils.so.1 provided by kdelibs3, but knetworkmanager shows kdelibs not kdelibs3 as the dependency. Looks like this got missed in the switch from kde3 to kde4. For now you should be able to get knetworkmanager working if you just install kdelibs3.

edit: bug reported at http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/11237

Re: Knetworkmanager not showing up as an app in KDEmod4

Well, upon startup this morning, I now have a knetworkmanager applet in my systray.  I didn't try anything after these last attempts but pacman a bunch of goodies (kdegames (-:) and shutdown completely.  Wireless is up and runing great now!  Thanks for all the help and the bug report.
