[SOLVED] Gtk-WARNING

Hello,

In the process of setting up Arch on my parents desktop PC...

When attempting to run gmome-session:

(gnome-session:3587): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.

(gnome-session:3587): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

I am currently attempting to use the VGA graphics driver as the one for the integrated graphics card (VIA) doesn't work at all.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] Gtk-WARNING

It looks like you need to set up your locale:

Re: [SOLVED] Gtk-WARNING

I have already done that and the locale has been set.

Re: [SOLVED] Gtk-WARNING

OK, managed to sort the locale part however the following still remains:

(gnome-session:3587): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

Re: [SOLVED] Gtk-WARNING

Looks like X isn't running. How are you starting gnome-session?

Re: [SOLVED] Gtk-WARNING

For the record - the PC is using "VIA - Display - VIA Chrome9 HC IGP Family WDDM" according to Vista.  I'm having difficulty getting the xf86-video-via driver working.  It seems that Xorg -configure isn't detecting any settings.

Re: [SOLVED] Gtk-WARNING

I was using "gnome-session".  startx works although the graphics are rather funky to say the least.

Re: [SOLVED] Gtk-WARNING

OK, managed to get the openchrome driver working.  However the cursor is being displayed as a strange square shaped graphical blob.  Also when moving it off the bottom of the screen the entire screen goes crazy.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] Gtk-WARNING

Solved it...had to do some more tweaking to the Xorg config file.
