Oh, I thought arch was a "best designed distro", which it is. When I realized that it was just rating web sites, I was a little disappointed, But hey, what ever gets people to install.
BTW whoever redesigned the logo and the site, excellent job.

After reading some stuff about Arch Linux and then looking at the home page for the first time, I thought, gee, this looks really professional for a distro that's not backed by a company. ![]()
I also like the design of OpenSUSE and Linux Mint from that list.

holy crap!

If I recall, Thayer did alot of work on the main site retheme. Neotuli did lots of work with Thayer on retheming ansillary sites to be more uniform.
I was just the backend monkey. ![]()

Saw that too. Neat!! Arch's website is elegant, fast and KISS. :-D

Agreed where as Arch sticks with a nice clean simplistic look to classify the distro itself. Good job guys!

The only sites that *could* be better than Arch's are Slax and Ubuntu Studio. Maybe...
My unprofessional opinion ![]()

Wow, that one is sweet!

Yeah thayer's the mastermind, I'm just a lackey.
Oh also, after looking at those top10, I have to say the Arch site stands out from the others design-wise. It's the only one on that list that doesn't use large icons and rounded/bubbly looks, and uses the full width of the browser window.
The suggestion box only accepts patches.

Agreed. I've always been a fan of crisp, clean, cornered layouts. Arch's is the nicest of that group by far.
My second favorite is Slax. Big buttons, sure, but everything is pretty simple.
- "Cryptographically secure linear feedback based shift registers" -- a phrase that'll get any party started.
- My AUR packages.
- I use i3 on my i7.

Great job cactus, the "easy stuff" is so cohesive, it looks effortless.
Thayer has serious style

oh yeah!
In times of widescreen-displays it is total crap if websites show corners even on normal displays!
now with 80% more sax-appeal!

I thought this would have a drawback on browser window with smaller width, but it actually scales up nicely.
Only flyspray does not. The advanced button overlaps with "save search as" and is no longer available. This has pissed me off so many times. But it has nothing to do with Arch.
Anyway I agree, Arch website rocks on every aspect : nice and clean design, usability, and consistency.

Yes. And why does the linux mint website display a big image that says it's been hacked?

Too bad, I missed it. I only saw a news page saying the server had been hacked because of a php vulnerability, and it included a nice Trojan for every happy windows users ![]()

From the linux mint site:
"Our server was hacked and code was injected into it to make connections on our behalf to pinoc.org and download a trojan called JS/Tenia.d For more information about this trojan: http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default. … s_k=146254 If you visited linuxmint.com in the last two days we recommend you scan your computer to make sure this trojan isn't present."

Hmm, nothing numbered below 6 (except possibly Ubuntu Studio) actually puts information a visitor might have been looking for on the front page. And of all 10, Arch and Ubuntu Studio are the only two that I could call well-designed, both for the layout, color scheme, and blurb. And from a usability standpoint, the list begins and ends with Arch. But who worded the Arch description in the "Welcome to Arch!" box? It's one of the best I've seen.
