I believe you can integrate s2ram right into pm-utils--according to the SUSE wiki anyway.  I might be mistaken, but I think pm-utils is the successor of the powersaved service, which used s2ram as well so I would be inclined to think the pm-utils is the future of hibernation/suspension.

Try them both and find out?
EDIT : I also have no probs with pm-utils while the power management utilities in Ubuntu didn't work for me..
