Eee pc no swap problem

Hi all

I am trying to install Arch on my Eee pc 4gb 701 but I am unsure how install without a swap as the installer will not accept 0mb

Also any advice on how to partition to 4gb SSD, I dont really ever store any files on the Eee its self I keep them all on a 4gb SDHC

Sorry for the "noobishness" of my questions

Regards

Re: Eee pc no swap problem

I don't have Arch on my eee as of yet. There are a couple resources I can point you toward.

One: The wiki entry on installing Arch on your eee: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … sus_EEE_PC

Two: The really big honkin' thread on installing Arch on your eee: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=39375

Re: Eee pc no swap problem

I had no issues with choosing the 'NONE' option for swap - but I would guess you're not there; but instead, looking at the cfdisk screen.

Simply don't make a swap file in cfdisk.

Then, when choosing what partitions go to what mountpoint, say 'NONE' for swap.

Mind you, there is some good information that points to the SSD fears being unfounded; that is, they aren't nearly as limited as they were some years ago.  So you may very well be able to use a swap partition, or use ext3 without problems.

Re: Eee pc no swap problem

thank you both for the replies

when using the "NONE" option i get an error

im not sure what im doing when it comes to partitions, is there a guide on installing arch to a single partition? (no separate "/" and "/home")

thanks

EDIT: I have got it installed smile but i am unable to to use the ethernet to download the the custom eee kernel and madwifi drivers.

should this be working be default> or did i need to connect manually? if so how?

sorry for the constant questions

Re: Eee pc no swap problem

Hello,

I have a EEE pc 701 running arch (awesome!). The ethernet was not functional after installation, I had to manually install it afterward. I found the package and placed in on a usb stick. mounted it on the eee, then "pacman -U". Finding the usb and mounting it was the most challenging part.
