Packaging nividia-177.67

Last night I tried to use the new beta nvidia driver which is supposed to solve the low 2D performance problem.

I used the PKGBUILD in ABS and just modified the pkgver. It compiled despite lots of warnings. Then I installed the package and rebooted. Unfortunately, Xserver refused to start. It said that the kernel driver was 177.67 whereas the X driver was still 173.xx.

What did I missed ?

Did you update nvidia-utils as well?

Damn it ! I thought nvidia-utils was just for nvidia-settings. Stupid of me sad

But then, why do they split the driver in 2 packages ? Is there any point of having only the kernel module without the X driver ?

Re: Packaging nividia-177.67

After using both methods numerous times, I've pretty much decided that with the nvidia drivers, it's better to install using the stock installer provided on the nvidia site. I really like the AUR system and use it heavily, but with a few things -- VMware, VirtualBox, along with nvidia -- I've found that it's more straightforward to use the stock installers.

I'm glad that people go to the trouble of making PKGBUILDS for all these things, just the same.

wOOt! These drivers support GTX280 in SLI on skulltrail. I'm seeing the same issue though with gxlgears, as mine is now 5600 fps instead of the 9000 fps with a single GTX280 and 177.13 drivers.
