Do I have to logout and back in?

Just curious, when I add my user to a new group (installing Virtualbox right now), must I log out and in for changes to take effect or is there another way? It only takes a quick sec but I just have so many GUI apps and oodles of windows going.

Typically you want to logout/in whenever you make changes to an account regarding permissions. This will in effect reset all the processes that would otherwise be running under old credentials. The same goes for password changes.

You can also use "newgrp" to continue without logging out.
