First things first, i am total linux noob and i dont know nothing about anything.
then to the point. Iwas just installing arch linux on my pentium 2 and the first options comes up as it should but when i choose boot arch linux it loads about 2 seconds and stops giving me message "kernel panic - not syncing: junk in achive" what does that mean? did i load wrong iso or is there error on the disc?
How much memory (RAM) does this machine have? IIRC Arch requires 96 MB minimum.
- Mid-2007 iMac 20", Intel 2GHz Core 2 Duo, 2x1GB DDR2-800, 250GB SATA HDD, and...MIGHTY MOUSE!!! , OSX 10.5 Leopard, ATI Radeon 2400XT 128MB
- HP zv6203cl, AMD Athlon 64 3200 S939, 2x512MB DDR400, 80GB 4200rpm HDD, ATI Radeon Xpress 200M 128MB, Arch i686
- 1986 Gibson SG Junior Cherry Red, Ibanez 15W amp, DigiTech RP250 modeling processor
256 Mb and harddrive is 30 Gb and i think i loaded the right CD too its the 686 one, also "unpacking initramfs" that was the last one before the kernel panic message
Do you know how much your graphics card reserves of the 256mb of ram? It sounds like a ram issue.
I installed arch i686 on a 98mb ram p2 laptop, worked perfectly. I used the ftp install, maybe you should try that route.
just make sure you understand your networking setup.
