Replacing ATI open-source drivers with proprietary ones.

The Arch ATI wiki isn't too clear on this. Can I just do the following (I have sudo installed)?

$ sudo pacman -R xf86-video-ati

And then:

$ sudo pacman -S catalyst

Do I need to remove the libgl package (that was installed when I installed the open-source driver) as well or should the two commands pretty much take care of it (I'm not worried about xorg.conf configuration yet)?

Thanks for the clarification!

Pacman is smart enough to not let you screw it up. It'll ask you to remove libgl when you try to install catalyst. Although you wouldn't have libgl installed at all if you removed your open source driver with 'pacman -Rs' or 'pacman -Rcs' to get rid of its unused dependencies as well.

Re: Replacing ATI open-source drivers with proprietary ones.

i ran into problems with xorg on a few computers where i installed catalyst right of the bat, but the problem got fixed by installing opensource drivers first, then replacing them with catalyst then editing xorg, so this works fine :-)

2007.08 - The last proper ARCH install cd.
