Just a little thank you to package managers..

Not sure if its the right place but here it goes.. Thanks you guys/girls for putting together the devel packages all in one.. It gets really annoying to have to make sure you have the devel packages on debian suse and others.. That is one giant reason i use arch.. As i said before thanks.. P.S. Keep up the good work..

Excuse my ignorance, but what does this mean? I'm guessing that the .h header files are included with the "main" package for a program or library, so that you have only "qt" and not qt + qt-devel. I haven't thought about that a lot, but I suppose it's handy, except for taking a bit more space if you don't actually need the headers. I'm all for it though.

Re: Just a little thank you to package managers..

Everyone needs the headers in arch.. Theres so much stuff that you will have to compile urself.. If arch was like debian then no it wouldnt be neccesary and that is why debian has so many freaking packages.. Because half are -devel.

Re: Just a little thank you to package managers..

I don't really compile a lot myself. I roll some packages of my own, but that's all; the packages in current, extra and the TURs satisfies all my needs.

I'd say something is wrong if many people feel they have to compile a lot of things themselves.

Btw, Debian has many packages because they offer a lot of software. There are packages for everything, and that's no exaggeration. They can do that because they have so many dedicated users who love their distro and can be bothered to maintain packages. I hope Arch can become like this eventually too (of course with current and extra staying slim!). Packages are so exceptionally easy to create that I can't see it not happening smile
