So i just spent hours installing Arch, as i'm getting bored of Ubuntu & Fedora.
I followed the 'beginners guide' and partitioned my disk exactly as it was on the guide, only different sizes.
So basically i made a mistake by paying too much attention to the guide than what was on my screen. And i get logged into a gnome session and realize my /home partition got mixed up with my swap. So i have a 15GB swap file lol...
Is there any easy way i can change this without a reinstall? Can i run the cd again and change the mountpoints? But since there are hidden config files etc in /home, will this cause a problem?
Thanks in advance
Oh yeah, i installed Gparted, but can't resize ![]()

Well if your old /home became swap, I am sorry but your data is gone, becasue swap is its own "fs" and will format the partition you chose for it.

No i still have Fedora on another drive. This is a fresh installation on a totally blank drive. I just need to resize the partitions, since my /home is 1.5GB and swap is 15GB.

Also about your GParted problem, the fs must be unmounted before you can resize. I recommend the GParted live CD or use the ubuntu live cd with GParted on it and resize via that.

Oh I see your problem now. Have you done anything to your system as of yet?

Just installed a few programs, browsers and such. I'll try unmounting the partitions and resizing them. This shouldn't cause any data loss should it?

I am not sure it will allow you to resize into the swap partition because they are different file systems.

Well i resized the swap ok, but i can't unmount /home, most likely because i'm using it. I can't remember, but does the partitioner on the installer have an option to resize?

I am pretty sure it does. Actually now that you say it, that makes sense. You just would have to resize the swap to 1.5gb and format that new partition to ext3 or w/e and just resize the /home. Lol, I guess the music distracted me. Try using the ubuntu live cd or if you have the gparted live cd to resize the home.

I guess these steps should help you:
1. copy all your /home partition data to somewhere else
2. Turn off swap
swapoff3. Delete swap and /home partition, make new ones using your favorite partitoning tools (fdsik, cfdisk etc.). You don't need to unmount /home as you 've already taken a copy of its contents...
4. format them as ext3 (if that's what you want):
mke2fs -j /dev/sdXMount it temporarily
5. copy the stuff back over to the newly created /home.
6. Setup fstab anew.
P.S. OK I am late ![]()
