Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

qca-tls was removed a while ago, probably because no packages in the main repos need it anymore. The kde3 repo has to include it, but it hasn't happended yet. But there's not so many packages that need it anyway...

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Hi mates,

I'm trying to install KDE3 after some time suffering KDE4's horrible performance. sad I have done next, but I get an unresolved dependency:

[musikolo@Kalisto ~]$ sudo pacman -Syu
:: Synchronizing package databases...

 community is up to date
 kde3 is up to date

warning: kernel26-firmware: ignoring package upgrade (2.6.28-1 => 2.6.29-1)
 local database is up to date
[musikolo@Kalisto ~]$ sudo pacman -S kde3
kde3 package not found, searching for group...
:: group kde3 (including ignored packages):
    kde3-arts  kde3-common  kde3-kdeaccessibility  kde3-kdeaddons  kde3-kdeadmin  kde3-kdeartwork  kde3-kdebase  kde3-kdebindings  kde3-kdeedu
    kde3-kdegames  kde3-kdegraphics  kde3-kdelibs  kde3-kdemultimedia  kde3-kdenetwork  kde3-kdepim  kde3-kdesdk  kde3-kdetoys  kde3-kdeutils
    kde3-kdewebdev

resolving dependencies...
error: cannot resolve "akode", a dependency of "kde3-kdemultimedia"
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: kde3-kdemultimedia: requires akode
[musikolo@Kalisto ~]$

What could I do to sort it out? hmm

Best regards! smile

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Hi ash,

thanks a lot for your links. I haven't tried them but I figure out they should sort out this issue. However, I wonder why aren't they available directly from the repos, if, as it seems to be, they are required for kde3-kdemultimedia. roll

Best regards! wink

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Hi ash,

akode worked like a charm but qca-tls requires qca-qt3:

[musikolo@Kalisto ~]$ sudo pacman -U akode-2.0.2-1.pkg.tar.gz
loading package data...
checking dependencies...
(1/1) checking for file conflicts                   [##################################################################################################] 100%
(1/1) installing akode                              [##################################################################################################] 100%
[musikolo@Kalisto ~]$ sudo pacman -S kde3
kde3 package not found, searching for group...
:: group kde3 (including ignored packages):
    kde3-arts  kde3-common  kde3-kdeaccessibility  kde3-kdeaddons  kde3-kdeadmin  kde3-kdeartwork  kde3-kdebase  kde3-kdebindings  kde3-kdeedu
    kde3-kdegames  kde3-kdegraphics  kde3-kdelibs  kde3-kdemultimedia  kde3-kdenetwork  kde3-kdepim  kde3-kdesdk  kde3-kdetoys  kde3-kdeutils
    kde3-kdewebdev
:: Install whole content? [Y/n]
resolving dependencies...
error: cannot resolve "qca-tls", a dependency of "kde3-kdenetwork"
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: kde3-kdenetwork: requires qca-tls
[musikolo@Kalisto ~]$ sudo pacman -U qca-tls-1.0-5-i686.pkg.tar.gz
loading package data...
checking dependencies...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: qca-tls: requires qca-qt3
[musikolo@Kalisto ~]$

I still don't understand why all these packages are not included in the repos if it is proven to be needed. hmm

Best regards! smile

Send tanis a mail and ask him to update. He doesn't seem to be around.

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Hi,

it seems to be unmaintained. I had some problems when I tried to installed KDE3. So, I think it's better to wait for the maintainer to fix the broken packages. I know this isn't good news, but it's what we have...

Sorry mate. :-)

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Many kde3 applications don't work with libjpeg 7 (You get "error while loading shared libraries: libjpeg.so.62: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory".) Installing libjpeg6 from AUR helps. See http://chakra-project.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?id=1097

Re: KDE 3.5.10 repository

Is there any other way to get KDE 3.5 on my machine? I'd much rather use it than KDE 4. Thanks.

Hello fellow TWIL community member tongue

You could try the Arch Rollback Machine. I don't know how far back it has records for, but you could take a look:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dow … ckages#ARM

EDIT: Never mind...KDE 3.5 is way older than how far back the ARM goes.
