Missing KDM daemon, broken gtk-qt-engine in KDEmod4.1

Hi all, I installed KDEmod 4.1 and noticed that there is no kdm daemon in /etc/rc.d, as a result I have to start kdm via inittab 'respawn' approach, which I hate because I cannot get a console interface even with 'Console login (Alt+N)' option in the kdm menu. Is it a bug that KDEmod misses this daemon? And is it a bug that KDM connot switch to a console interface? It will be appreciated if someone could paste his kdm here so that I could manually create it in my /etc/rc.d to start my kdm.

Also, I installed gtk-qt-engine (svn 144 version from KDEmod repo), but it crashes my KDE as soon as I start a GTK app. (In fact it crashes my system one second after I entered the desktop, I think it is due to my autostarted scim.) Does anyone of you experience the same problem?

Edit: fixed the mysterious text lost accident.

Ok, i don't know where you can get this file but for the time you have not you can do this: Ctrl+Alt+F1 (or F2..F6) and you have a console. Than login as root and type "/sbin/runlevel 3" to stop kdm and "/sbin/runlevel 5" to start it again. If you know that you want to start the konsole at bootup and use grub than you can append a '3' at the end of the kernel line to boot runlevel 3.

From my view it doesn't matter on which way you start kdm because you can even get the same ... only on different ways. smile

Thanks attila. I will try that when I come back home. I remember that when I start KDE4 (the one from the offical Arch repo) with /etc/rc.d/kdm daemon, I can get to console with the 'Console login (Alt+N)' option, which is more convenient for me.

Actually there is KDM in KDEmod... and i've never had any problems with it. KDM is in the kdemod-kde-common package

Yes I know kdm is in kdemod, I just say that kdemod does not include a kdm daemon in /etc/rc.d

KDM daemon is in the kdemod-kde-common package...

pacman -Ql kdemod-kde-common | grep kdm
kdemod-kde-common /etc/rc.d/kdm

man, that package (kdemod-kde-common) is JUST that rc.d/ script. I think it really should be merged into kdemod-kdebase-workspace 4.1.1-1 (which is the package that has the kdm executable)
