Compiz+Catalyst=white screen

I get a white screen when i try to run compiz --replace.  I'm using catalyst 8.8 with indirect rendering (dri=false).  Dmesg say

[fglrx] GART Table is not in FRAME_BUFFER range

Also, iptables blocks an outgoing packet to udp 1900.  This happens almost simultanously, and disabling iptables doesn't change anything.
