I have been searching the web for this and can only find "how to's" for this particular package: ethtool.
I am running FaunOS which is a live version of Arch. It runs oddly slow at times so I opened the task manager and noticed this particular item floating at the top of the list when arranged by CPU usage. I have 2 GB RAM, P4 so it should not run slow.
I understand it's purpose is to configure the ethernet card and change settings, but assuming that is done during a session; is it possible to kill this item and still remain connected to the net? All references to the tool suggest configuring eth"x"
I actually use wifi all the time and the device is wifi0. FaunOS can't even configure my hardwired LAN card (eth0), as the driver needed for my laptop doesn't exist in it's kernel.
I am wondering if this tool is constantly monitoring if eth"x" exists, and it doesn't, but it is constantly working overtime to look for it.
I assume this tool is part of the kernel, but if it isn't and I don't need it to connect via wifi"x" I'd like to disable it altogether.
