When I got my eee I thought there would be nothing better for it than Arch! I read that the eee ethernet drivers were built into the image from 2008-03, so went ahead and got 2008-06 and was installing fine until the ethernet connection was needed for pacman/getting the eee kernel from toofishes.
I read that the 1000h has a different ethernet adapter to the other models so i assume this is why it is unsupported (seemigly).
There is so much crap floating around about distros and the eee - So here I am.
eg: that 43 page topic in the Archlinux forums. - I scanned that for any answers but was unsuccessful.
Could someone please just confirm whether Archlinux will support the 1000h ethernet from the USB install?
If so I'll go back and try harder.
Just for the record I've used Arch before and not a complete newbie.

I have an Eee 901, and my ethernet wasn't working with the stock kernel (at least, by memory). I had success with ighea's Eee 901 kernel in the same thread (post #1058). I just downloaded it, installed it with pacman -U, and it worked.
The Eee 1000H has a lot in common with the 901, so you might have some success with it too.

I'll give that a go tonight. Hope this goes well, my eee has been out of action longer than it has been in.

No luck, that kernel you recommended didn't install, complained a little about some madwifi-utils or something that I didn't have.
Then i got this kernel http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 80#p406680 (post #10)
It installed but i still cant see eth0, only lo.
Anyone got any 1000h experience?

Oh yeah, I remember installing that. If you didn't do it during the initial installation, you can still mount your media, navigate to the package itself and install via pacman -U.
I also remember selecting wireless_tools, but I didn't have much use for it until I had everything else set up, since I don't have wifi at home.

Ok, same problem. Still not detecting. Installed the madwifi-utils-0.9.4.3844-1-i686.pkg.tar then eee-kernel901-2.6.26.2-2-i686.pkg.tar and still have "lo" when i do ifconfig -a
Any ideas?

Sorry to keep bumping - But this is getting pretty frustrating.
I've been looking around some more and cannot find anywhere that says whether the 901 and 1000h have the same network adapter. It would make sense that they do not because of the 2 901 kernels I've tried, neither gave me an ethernet card.
Has anyone got a 1000h with arch?

did you run "ifconfig eth0 up"

I hadn't, but just did it now and as i thought it said "no such device"
ifconfig only yields the "lo" connection.

Forgive me for asking the obvious, but you are booting from the new kernel, right? The entry you added to /boot/grub/menu.lst should look something like this (assuming you're using Grub):
# (2) Arch Linux (ighea's Eee 901 kernel)
title ighea's Arch Linux Eee Kernel
root hd(0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuzeee root=/dev/sda1 roRunning Arch on Eee PC 901 12 GB
