xpilot-ng crashing

I'm trying to play xpilot-ng compiled from AUR, but as soon as I click LMB the game crashes:

X Error of failed request:  BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request:  136 (XFree86-Misc)
Minor opcode of failed request:  3 (XF86MiscGetMouseSettings)
Value in failed request:  0x14001a9
Serial number of failed request:  535748
Current serial number in output stream:  535748

I've tried to downgrade xorg from testing to current, but this does not help. Both x11 and sdl frontents of xpilot-ng are affected.

Any help in getting this working?
