[SOLVED] startkde not found

I've install kde but I can't find the startkde command. Could anyone tell me what package it's in?

Thanks!

Re: [SOLVED] startkde not found

well if you installed kde then its all you need. Remember that once kde installation is completed you need to relog, so that environment variables will get updated, else you  wont be able to run kde(1st time, if you rebooted you will probably be already up and running wink.

Re: [SOLVED] startkde not found

As IMG said, a relog should do the trick, but for your own info, startkde is in /opt/kde/bin. at least for kdemod3.  In the future do an updatedb and locate someFileName to see all the places it may be.

Re: [SOLVED] startkde not found

Thank you all. I was trying to start kde as user. Directory /opt was empty, kde libs were in /usr/lib/kde, I think, but startkde wasn't anywhere. I ran "find /usr -name startkde" and had no results.

I am trying out Arch as a guest system on Virtualbox with Kubuntu 8.04 as host. Just in case I had missed something I've just done "pacman -S kde" in order to install the whole lot of kde packages, but after they downloaded there was a kernel error "Unable to handle kernel paging resquest at ..." which ended with "Bad EIP value".

Maybe I'll make a fresh installation and give it another try in a few days.

Re: [SOLVED] startkde not found

If you tried installing kde that way then you have kde4 which should be in usr, so if it's not there something went wrong with the package installation.

Re: [SOLVED] startkde not found

Yes, something had gone wrong with the installation of Arch as a Virtualbox guest. It seems you cannot run Arch as a Virtualbox guest as you get frequent kernel panics.

As I have a laptop I don't often use, I decided to try out Arch on it and take advantage of the rolling release model. Well, I'm glad to say that the installation has been smooth and I've quickly managed to get KDE 4 running.

As for my original question, what package does startkde belong to, pacman gives me this answer:

$ pacman -Q -o /usr/bin/startkde
/usr/bin/startkde es propiedad de kdebase-workspace 4.1.0-5

Thank you again.
