[Solved] Dovecot-1.1.2-1-x86_64 Does not Work

[Solved] After upgrading and restarting Dovecot the IMAP-server just does not connect anymore. I didn't find any change in dovecot.conf.
Downgrading to dovecot-1.0.15-3-x86_64 solves the problem.

dovecot-1.1.3-1 also does not work. What did change??? No one is using?
Downgrading to dovecot-1.0.15-3-x86_64 solves the problem.

It works for me fine on i686. After any version upgrade it should be restarted, but I guess you already know this.
Anyway dovecot is pretty verbose, so you should be able to find some error messages in the system log. Use them to write a bug report.

I'm running dovecot x86_64 on my server without any problems.

Of course dovecot has been restarted. However, with all version 1.1.xx nobody can log on anymore, while the old version works perfect. This phenomenom is reproducable any time.

The log says as followed:
"dovecot: May 09 17:44:10 Error: IMAP(jcci): Fatal: Dovecot version mismatch: Master is v1.0.10, imap is v1.0.13 (if you don't care, set versision_ignore=yes)"

So I did add this comment but without success. How come I have a version mismatch just by straight forward updating? I don't have any special configuration.

Did you restart the clients after restarting the server?
Anyway, try to set the following in dovecot.conf:

shutdown_clients = yes

And now restart dovecot again. I had not to do this, but probbaly you are using a different authentication system (perhaps an authentication server?).

Thank you very much dor the suggestion! I will try that.
Of course the clients have been restarted and I also tried fresh client setup without success. There should be a known difference between 1.1.xx and previous versions that may relate to my problem.
Our mail server just works with plain text authentification. I suppose there isn't any simpler way.

"shutdown_clients = yes" unfortunately doesn't change anything.
Dovecot is not even asking for the authentification password when using version 1.1.x. So again I downgraded to version 1.0.15-3 and everything is fine.

So far I still couldn't find any solution. Today dovecot-1.1.4-1 came up, but it is just the same problem: Upgrade, restart dovecot, IMAP dead.

It's still working fine for my local setup. Search google for the error messages you get in your logs.

Whenever I tried a 1.1.xx version the following message appears in the dovecot log-file

Warning: Killed with signal 15

This looks like a crash of dovecot. But downgrading works well again. Is there any substantial change in the dovecot.conf (i.e. some settings are not accepted anymore)?
I use a plain authentification and mdir.

Now it's solved!
Actually Dovecot 1.1.xx is not compatible with a lot of older dovecot.conf. So I just took the new example file, took the settings from the old conf and left all tweakings at default. The dovecot troubleshoot had a very soft expresseion for: "You can use your old dovecot.conf although..."
